Children Aged 8-12 years

As children approach adolescence their abilities to independently participate in therapy increases. More formalised therapeutic intervention can be used and may include the following:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Social Skills Training
  • Mindfulness
  • Zones of Regulation
  • Social Thinking Curriculum

The bulk of session will be spent working with the child on skill building and they will often be asked to practise skills or record information in between sessions. Parental support at this age continues to be important as children are more likely to engage with and continue to use strategies that become embedded in their day to day activities.
