During these years the focus of therapy often shifts towards a 50\/50 split of work done with the child and the parents. Children often attend the bulk of the session time and may be given simple homework tasks where they are asked to practise strategies with the support of their parents. Parents would be supported to understand what has been covered in sessions and how they can support their child to practise and embed skills taught in sessions. The focus of sessions is a combination of increasing emotional awareness and supporting the child to build the skills to regulate their emotions and behaviours. Interventions often include strategies such as:<\/p>\n

  • relaxation and visualisation skills<\/li>\n
  • simple mindfulness<\/li>\n
  • progressive muscle relaxation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
